Some of the original Japanese text of the Lunar games were obviously changed when it went through the tremendous translation transition to English. Here are some subjects that show up in jokes:
- Ross Perot, politician
- President Bill Clinton
- Rush Limbaugh, pontificator
- Kevin Bacon, actor
- Eddie Vedder, musician
There is an incident in the first Lunar where a passerby, noticing Nall, your flying dragon creature companion, says, "So, how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?" To which Nall replies, "That's not me, you idiot! That's some stupid owl!" There were also references to Wheaties, Monopoly, and Mr. Ed. There were also some sex jokes from Kyle in The Silver Star, and Ronfar in Eternal Blue.
(In the future, look for screen shots of more Americanization examples in Lunar here.)
