Well, the Lunar Hints & Tips section is finally up. Now these are hints for Lunar: Eternal Blue.
One of the most basic elements in a role playing game is experience. In Lunar, the programmers made a simple way of getting this much wanted experience via the ice mongrels in Katarina Zone West (the icy area). Still, they're extremely difficult to defeat, since almost any attack either misses or takes one or two damage. In the beginning, you would have to have the luck of an advantage, which doesn't come often enough. I found a surefire way of killing these dogs without that.
First you have to have gotten Lucia's Tear and the Dimension Ring in Dragon's nest and Lionhead in the epilogue. Equip these with Jean. Also equip the Red Dragon Crest and the Snake Ring (If you got it) with Ronfar.

Next you need to pick a fight. For this battle you need to find the Ice Mongrel with the three Ice Pups. Hiro: Poe the Ice Mongrel, Ronfar: attack, Jean: attack an Ice Pup, Lemina: flame bomb the Ice Mongrel (If high enough), and Leo: Soul Blade the Ice Mongrel.
This will net you enough experience to try your luck with just one or even two Ice Mongrels together. To do this you need to have Lemina's fire fully powered. Here's how to kill two.
Hiro: Poe the top one, Ronfar: Red Dragon Anger, Jean: Blue Dragon Chop, Lemina: Crematorium, Leo: Soul Blade.
Something to try: When your at Taben's peak the second time and your party breaks off and you are alone with Ruby, instead of looking for Lucia right away, save your game and try your luck with the baddies of the dungeon. Usually Hiro is considerably lower in experience than the others (at least, it is for me. Maybe I just suck), so this is a good time to catch up. More times than not you'll get wasted, but it's worth it.
I know many people, like myself, who like to max everyone out on their magic ability. Don't do it. Instead, raise only the most important magics (Ronfar's Health to max, Jean's dance to level 16, Lemina's flame to 16 and Ice to max).
A reader, "The Other Side," responds to this:
Actually, this tip works very well with any cold/water-based creature, such as:
- The Missing Link
- White Fiend
- Blue Fiend
- Meribian Sewer critters
- The critters around White Dragon Cave
- The critters around the Missing Link
Anyway, on to the tip:
The flame saber, and other fire-based attacks, do increased damage against cold enemies.Ê Indeed, I find that Hiro with the flame saber can hit the Ice Mongrels for significantly MORE than were he to use a weapon that increases his attack power (I believe he could do more damage with the flame saber than with Althena's Sword!).Ê He topped out around 680-720 or so, very nearly killing the things outright. This also works for Lemina's Flame Bomb, Burning Rage, and Crematorium (and the weaker ones, too). Here's how I typically would defeat the Ice Mongrels:
Hiro - Equip with Flame Saber, 2 Fire Rings (anything that increases attack power and doesn't replace the flame saber)... and Poe Sword (the fire rings add up to about a 60 point increase in his hits)
Jean - Equip with 2 Fire Rings (anything that increases attack power and isn't cold-based)... Blue Dragon Chop (while not as pronounced as the Poe Sword, the two rings DO add a significant amount)
Lemina - Equip with ANYTHING that increases wisdom, Fire magic -> 30, and Flame Bomb (as her wisdom increases, her damage does too, so... well I could hit the Mongrels for around 250 or so before I even went to Neo-Vane)
Ronfar - Equip with ANYTHING that increases his wisdom, Heal magic -> 30... and Shining Litany (will suck 1 point away from the mongrels for each point in wisdom). Ê ÊÊÊ
All told, I'd typically get around 450 from Hiro, 50 from Jean, 170 from Lemina, and around 100 from Ronfar.Ê Totals up to 770, which is more than enough to down a dog.Ê When I finally got everyone to level 99, the numbers were more like 700, 150, 270, 160.
How to beat:
by Dragon Tkacenko
Lunn. Equip Jean with the White Dragon Crest, the Heal Ring, and make sure she's loded with dover nuts and silver/star lights. At the beginning of the battle, cast White Dragon Protect. When Lunn's hands are at his waist, he's going to do the chameleon spell. Cast Dopple Dance. When his arms are flaming, he will use the Dragon Gale. You should have the protection of the WDP still, so do a Hadoken. This will deal out major damage. Immediately recast WDP after. heal when necessary.
Borgan. For this you will need a little luck. Give Lemina the White Dragon Crest and an agility booster item (If possible) and Jean the Blue Dragon Crest and the Illusion Ring. The orb in front of Borgan attacks the party, the one behind him heals him, and the one below him casts magic shield. Take out the one that attacks first, then the one that heals. Have Hiro Poe Sword Ronfar heal the party Jean Blue Dragon Vigor and attack the next round Lemina White Dragon Protect when Borgan's hands are raised (Gravity bomb). When magic runs low, use a star/silver light or cast magic swiper on Borgan.
Fake Althena. Have Hiro Poe the Rod until it is destroyed and then use battalion sword Ronfar should heal when necessary or attack Jean Comet tail the body Lemina cast magic shield.
Ghaleon. Equip Jean w/ Blue Dragon Crest. Hiro: Poe Sword, Ronfar: heal, Jean: BDV and attack, Lemina: Magic Shield, Leo: Flash blade.
Zophar. Make sure that at least three of your characters can cast Revive Magic and equip Jean with the Blue Dragon Crest. Don't worry about wasting magic or health, just survive the battle. Hiro: Poe, Ronfar: Tranquil Litany, Jean: Haduken, Lemina: Ice Lance, Leo: Flash Blade. Make sure you have a lot of health when Zophar is holdin a shining ball (Bad Dream) and when a disk is floating above his head (Ultra Vortex).
Omni-Zophar. When there is a dark disk under one of your party members, get that person, and anyone nearby, away from that disk. It's called Hell Wave and it will most likely kill whoever it catches. If it is Far from Zophar attack his head. If the disk is near him, defend. Destroy the hands first. It may take longer, but it makes the fight easier. Hiro: Poe sword, Ronfar: heal or attack, Jean: Blue Dragon Vigor/attack, Lemina: Pressure Cooker each section once, then Ice Lance; Leo: Flash Blade.
Star Sentry. Equip Hiro with Althena's Sword (Taben's Peak, talk to Nall) Lucia's Tear and Dimension Ring (Dragon's Nest and Lionhead). Then just attack until you have low health and use Althena's sword to heal.
Reader Gary Dry gives us another tip:
The shrine next to the Red dragon cave will give you money instead of taking money when you donate.
